Ahead of BRUTON’s world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival tomorrow, I thought it’d be fun to share Ramblin’ Roller, an original song I co-wrote with blues legend @oscar_jesus_bugarin
We had a great time writing and recording this one. Inspired by the sound of classic Delta blues, it plays over a pivotal scene in the film as Bryan Bruton (Theo Rossi) is sentenced and inducted into prison life.
While the score for Bruton explores a world of analog synths and electronic textures, this song comes from a completely different musical world. Always fun to write in a wide range of styles for a film!

This was a really fun score to write. From the short comedy film ‘All The Rage’.
Growing up, I loved Tom & Jerry and the music was a big part of it. Fast-moving frenetic orchestral scores by Scott Bradley for MGM. I think you can hear a little of that influence here, mixed with some of the 1950s-style string writing that always makes me think of Family Guy.
It was great to spend time deep diving through orchestral stuff and library music to learn the style.
The film follows a meditation instructor trying to overcome a lifetime of anger, only to have his patience tested at every turn. It’s funny, chaotic, and gave me the perfect excuse to write music that could bounce from one emotion to the next. Benji the director really wanted me to accent and ham up all the comedy moments.

This was such a fun film to score. We leaned into a synth-driven palette, blending vintage synth textures with an early-2000s Florida atmosphere to help tell Bryan Bruton’s (@bryanbruton) remarkable true story. It gave me the chance to experiment with sounds and instruments I’d been wanting to explore for a long time, and I’m honored to have been part of bringing his story to life.

During a recent preview screening of Gangland, Lou Diamond Phillips shared these thoughts about the score during the Q&A.
As a composer, hearing someone recognize what you’re trying to accomplish - music that serves the film rather than calling attention to itself - is incredibly rewarding.
He also described it as ‘Insidious’ which is exactly what Vince and I were going for. A feeling of relentless threat that’s just under the surface that could kick off at any time. There are several ethereal moments, but even in those moments, there is a weight and an unease.

Excited to share that I just finished writing the score for Bruton, starring Theo Rossi, Aya Cash and Tammy Blanchard. Written and directed by Vincent Grashaw.
Bruton, is a film about Bryan Bruton, who was sentenced to a decade in a Florida prison for an unintended crime.
Bruton was charged in the early 2000s for a manslaughter conviction from a fatal hit and run in Jacksonville, Fl. The movie follows Bruton’s journey through the correctional system.

Keep Quiet, which I wrote score and music for, is to hit US/Canada cinemas early 2026!
Visit Films has sold “Keep Quiet,” which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, to Saban Films for the U.S. and Canada.
The film won the German Independence “Spirit of Cinema” Audience Award at the Oldenburg Film Festival.
The film is directed by Vincent Grashaw.

It’s been an exciting week for KEEP QUIET with its premiere at @filmfestlocarno today. Writing the score for this was such an honour, it’s an incredible film with such a powerful story. I can’t wait for you to see it!
Lou Diamond Phillips stars as Teddy, a weathered tribal cop who, with his new trainee, Sandra (Dana Namerode), must find ruthless fugitive Richie, played by Elisha Pratt (Killers of the Flower Moon, True Detective). After all, Richie’s return to their rural Indigenous reservation “has exposed its darkest secrets and could ignite a violent gang war.”
